Jewish Weddings From Dating To Marriage
Orthodox Perspective
The Recessional

• Recessional

Cries of "Mazel Tov," congratulations, and good wishes envelope the bride and groom, as they and their attendants make their way from the Chuppah up the aisle, once the wedding ceremony is completed.

And as happy Jewish wedding music is played, some guests may shower the newlyweds with rice. Grains signify fertility.  Eastern European Jews were more likely to be pelted with wheat kernels because wheat kernels were more readily available. Grains are also included in the biblical list of Holy Land produce. “A land of wheat, barley, grapes, figs and pomegranates. A land of olive oil and [date] honey.”
