Thoughts: Sefer Shemot (Exodus)
The second book of the Torah, the Five
Books of Moses is Exodus or Shemot (Hebrew: שמות, literally
"names").
The Book of Shemot is divided into
eleven parashot (portions), which are Shmot, Va'era, Bo, Beshalach,
Yitro, Mishpatim, Trumah, Tetzaveh, Ki Tisah, Vayakhel, and Pekudei.
This second volume narrate the departure of the descendants of the
Patriarchs from Egypt lead by Moses through the wilderness and to
the famous mountain, Mount Sinai. There on the mountain, Moses
delivers to the Israelites the laws of the Torah, and it there God
enters into a covenant with his people. God promises the nation of
Israel the land of Canaan in return for their faithfulness.
The book of Exodus ends with the construction of the Tabernacle.
