The Book of Genesis, Bereishit (Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית, "in the beginning") is the first book of the five books of the Torah. This first book is divided into twelve Parashot (portions): Bereshit, Noach, Lech Lecha, Vayera, Chayay Sarah, Toldot, VaYetze, VaYigash, VaYeshev, Miketz, VaYigash, and Vayechi. Some of the most famous of the biblical stories are found in Genesis, including the account of the six days of the creation of the world, the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the feud between the brothers Cain and Abel and its tragic ending, the Tower of Babylon (Babel), Noah's Ark and the big flood, the rainbow and God's promise, and later the near sacrifice of Isaac, the saga of the Patriarchs and the Matriarchs, the battles between Jacob and Esau, and then the tale of Jacob and his twelve sons, and much more.
