Weekly Torah Portion: Genesis - Chayei Sarah 102

Chapter 28
- The three malachim (angels) have come to visit Abraham and one is about to deliver a prophetic message.] And he said: Just as this living time recurs I will return unto thee, and lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah was listening at the door of the tent, which was behind him.
- Now Abraham and Sarah were, advanced in years and it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
- And Sarah laughed within herself saying: After I am already worn out should I have the deepest satisfaction, my lord being also an old man.
- Then God said unto Abraham: Wherefore then did Sarah laugh saying shall I then in truth bear when I have become so old?
- Is anything too wonderful for God? At the appointed time I will return unto thee at this living time and Sarah shall have a son.
What is meant by the term "within herself?" This indicates that she did not laugh out loud, that it was an inner thought. Is God telling us that He hears our inner thoughts? Probably. But much much more. The Torah is teaching us that God hears our inner-most desires, thoughts, and dreams. He certainly heard Sarah's. Even more important, let's look at Verse
"Is anything too wonderful for God?" There are some nuances and subtleties that need to be seen in this particular phrase. It doesn't say, "Aren't all things possible for God?" "Can't God do anything He wants?" It says, "Is anything too wonderful for God?" This ties beautifully into the previous comment about our inner-most desires. No, nothing is too wonderful for God. All we have to do is truly want it, have it be a blessing in our lives, and ask.
