Bar Mitzvah Privileges for 13 Year Old Boy

After the age of bar mitzvah, a boy may be counted as part of a minyan,
put on tefillin and be called up to the Torah. He is a valid witness in a
Jewish court and can sell movable goods, but not real estate. His vows are
considered valid. These rights have evolved over time.
The above mentioned privileges may also be perceived as a burden. For not
only is a thirteen-year-old boy counted as part of a minyan, but is
halachically required to join one three times daily. It is a huge
obligation, and proper preparation and talks with your child about the
significance of his new status in the eyes of Halacha may make the
transition a more favorable and positive experience.
