365 Negative Mitzvot

Of the Six Hundred and Thirteen commandments (613 - Taryag Mitzvot), two hundred and forty eight (248) are "positive commandments," which are active commands to perform specific deed.  The other three hundred and sixty five (365)  are "negative commandments" commands to abstain from certain actions.

According to some traditions, the 365 negative mitzvot ("Thou shall not..."), represent 365 different tendons and veins in our bodies. Therefore, practicing each mitzvah, or in the case of "negative" miztvot, negative commandments which instruct to abstain from certain acts, helps a specific part of our self to remain strong, physically and spiritually. Over the years, rabbis and Jewish holy men would recommend specific mitzvot to people who sought healing for specific ailments affecting specific organs.
