Jewish Life in the Greater Los Angeles Area: Schools and Yeshivot
At Jewish day schools, children from Kindergarten through 8th grade receive a high quality dual-curriculum education along the usual language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, etc. they also study Jewish subjects such as Hebrew, Jewish history, Jewish texts, and Jewish values.

In North America there are approximately 500 Orthodox day schools, over 100 Community (i.e., pluralistic) day schools, 76 Conservative day schools, and 19 Reform day schools. Many Jewish day schools also have a pre-school, and more and more communities are opening pluralistic Jewish high schools.

Statistically, the value of a Jewish education, is evident, as Jewish day school students consistently score in the top percentiles on all the various national standardized exams. Perhaps, some think, it's due to the extra challenge and extra mental stimulation resulting form a "dual curriculum" which adds 10 to 15 additional weekly hours of Jewish studies.

Jewish Day School also put an emphasis on values such as proper behavior, respect, responsibility, consideration, charity, spirituality, hospitality, humility, and more. It may also be noted that intermarriage rate amongst kids who attended Jewish Day Schools for at least six years is at about 20%, which is significantly lower than the 60-70% current intermarriage rate.
